This Sunday, April 25th, is World Day of Prayer for Vocations (Marriage, Priesthood, Diaconate, Consecrated Life and the Single Life)
Good Shepherd Sunday is a special day for everyone in our parish. We celebrate World Day of Prayer for Vocations. We ask that we may be filled with joy and the Holy Spirit as we carry on the mission of Jesus, our Good Shepherd. Let us pray for one another that we may be strengthened in our Christian vocations as married and single people, priests, deacons and religious. May our youth listen to God’s call and be encouraged to respond generously. As we celebrate this feast we pray for fidelity to our vocation. The Church invites us to honor the vocation of all Christians
given at baptism.
May we who have dedicated our lives to God through
the vocation of marriage, priesthood,
diaconate, consecrated life, and the single life
remain faithful to our commitments.
May those who are discerning their life vocation
listen to the grace of God to guide them. Amen.”
In celebration for the Year for Priests, St. Catherine of Siena Parish is hosting a special talk by Fr. Julito R. Orpilla, Parochial Vicar, Holy Spirit Church. Let us show our appreciation, support and encouragement to our young priest, Fr. Julito, as he shares with us his journey to the priesthood. The theme of his talk is “Faithfulness of Christ, faithfulness of priests” and will be held this Friday, January 8, 2010 at 7:00 pm in the church.
For the lips of the priest are to keep knowledge
And instruction is to be sought from his mouth,
Because he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts.” Mal 2:7
An icon commissioned by one priest in Connecticut has been selected to be the national image for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ celebration of the Year for Priests. Announced in June 2009 by Pope Benedict XVI for Catholics worldwide, the Year for Priest is a time of prayer for and reflection by priests on their sacred calling. For more information on the Year for Priests, go to: http://www.usccb.org/yearforpriests/. This segment was produced by the Archdiocese of Hartford.
As part of the celebration of the Year for Priests, Fr. William Kinane, former pastor of St. Catherine of Siena parish, will be sharing and reflecting on his calling to priesthood. Kinane in prayer, listen to his personal reflection, and get a chance to ask questions in regards to his priestly journey this Friday starting at 6:30 pm.
