Candle Bearers Ministry

Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” – John 8:12

Mission Statement:

To provide a way for the youth in middle school to get involved in the parish liturgical service and instill in them the importance of their role.

Vision Statement:

To provide a pool of dedicated Candle Bearers available throughout the year.

What the ministry is about:

Candle Bearer Ministers are a very important part of our Parish Liturgy. Candle Bearer Ministers are 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students from our parish. During our Parish Liturgies, the Candle Bearers carry the candles in the entrance procession, they Light the Word of God during the proclamation of the Gospel, they lead the Offertory Gift, and they process in the closing procession.

Suggested Attributes:

It is a privilege and an honor to serve as a Liturgical Minister; therefore, each Minister must be dedicated and committed to serving our community with the appropriate reverence. It is a very serious commitment. In the case of our Candle Bearer Ministry, it is not only a commitment by the Minister, but also a commitment by his/her parents. Parents are expected to have their child at his/her scheduled Masses 15 minutes before Mass begins. Punctuality is necessary.

The Lay Ministers’ Schedule (which includes the Candle & Cross Bearers) are created and distributed three-times a year. They are scheduled in three cycles: February to May, June to September, and October to January. They are distributed a week before the start of the cycle. Here’s the link to the latest Lay Minister’s Schedule.
