Nine-Day Novena for the Relief of Souls in Purgatory

admin October 21st, 2009

A Spiritual Work of Mercy, the nine-day Novena will start on Saturday, October 24th thru November 1st. A complete Novena schedule will follow.

After the feast of All Saints comes All Souls Day, when the Church invites us to pray for the faithful departed, that, released from Purgatory and fully purified, they may be admitted to the eternal bliss of heaven. Between these two feast days, we remember all the members of the Mystical Body of Christ: the Church Triumphant in heaven, the Church Militant on earth, and the Church Suffering in purgatory.

Over the centuries, the month of November has been dedicated to the Souls in Purgatory. No doubt the reason is because November is the last month of the liturgical year, even as purgatory is the last stage of human existence before a soul reaches heaven.
