What is Outreach Ministry?
The Seniors Outreach Ministry (“SOM”) is a recently organized ministry in April 2003 upon realizing the need to minister to seniors. It is composed of about 60 dedicated volunteers, young and old alike, sharing their time, talent and profession. This ministry focuses on two service areas: 1) providing and coordinating social activities and events for the seniors and 2) addressing specific needs of the seniors. SOM currently provides transportation to/from church, doctor’s appointment and grocery. Yard care, minor home repair, telephone and visitation support are also provided.
Ministers should have patience and compassion to those being served; people-oriented; persistent in following up with clients; have goodwill; willingness to listen; deep sense of commitment; and reliable. Other desirable traits but not required are ability to drive, bilingual, handyman skills, and shopping skills.
