The sacrament of marriage bring abundant blessings upon a husband and wife. That love overflows into the life they bring to their children, and the joy they bring to their friends and family, as well as the Church. The clergy and staff at St. Catherine’s would like to help prepare you not only for your wedding day, but for a lifetime of blessings as you journey with each other to the Lord.

The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament.

Marriages

Congratulations on your engagement. Please contact the parish office at the beginning of you engagement to set up an initial meeting with Fr. Glenn. The Diocese of Sacramento requires at minimum 6 month preparation before your wedding, although 9 months to 1 year is ideal.

Couples who have been civilly married and would like to get married in the Catholic Church will go through a process known as Convalidation. The preparation and marriage ceremony will be similar to engaged couples getting married in the Catholic Church.

Marriage Preparation

Your engagement is a time of discovery and preparation so that your marriage will have a solid foundation that will last a lifetime. For this reason, the Church wishes to share with you the vision of marriage as Christ intended. The Diocese of Sacramento and St. Catherine’s has a set of classes that will cover meaning and purpose of marriage, the gift of sexuality, natural family planning and provide you with tools you need to have a joy-filled marriage that lasts a lifetime.

Wedding Anniversaries
& Renewal of Vows

We would love to help you celebrate your wedding anniversary at St. Catherine’s. Married couples who have been validly married in the Catholic Church may celebrate their wedding anniversaries with a renewal of vows. Please contact the parish office for more details.

Marriage Ceremony

There are two forms to the marriage rite in the Catholic Church.

The Nupitial Mass is the usual form and is used for marriages between two Catholics.

The Marriage Rite Outside of Mass is used for marriages when a Catholic marries a non-Catholic.

Both are valid forms of the Sacrament of Marriage. For more information about the marriage ceremony at St. Catherine’s please click on the link below.
